Teaching Tips

MIA… Happens to the best of us

Missing In Action, this seems like such a relevant title as I have not posted in a very long time.

Life as a teacher is just always so hectic! You are always busy, running around like a chicken without its head πŸ˜€ well… that’s what my life has seemed to be like over this past year.

I have missed posting about all the wonderful things my students are getting up to and everything I have been doing. I have still been creating and adding to my Teachers Pay Teacher store, so you may have seen a few cool things there that I have done. If you follow my Instagram as well I have been pretty good at updating that until recently… however I promise I have a good reason why!

About a month ago I packed up my classroom in Canberra and set off on a new journey to the Central Coast. Now a lot of you may be thinking… AFTER TERM 1!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING????!!! Yes I know, it was awful leaving my students and so hard to pack everything and say goodbye. Was absolutely heart breaking! However I was saying for years that I wanted to leave Canberra, be closer to my family (out of the cold lol) and back to where I feel like I belong…

Then my mum said something, “what are you waiting for? If you don’t just take a chance and do it, then you never will”. At that point I knew she was absolutely right! That I had been putting it on hold and making excuses. So the next question was… do I really want to do this?

Um YES! So that now brings you all up to speed about what I am doing and why I am making all these crazy changes πŸ™‚

I am currently casually working at different schools, which I am really loving as I get to have a look at different levels of understanding, as well as a variety of resources. I have been to so many different year levels and it has been AMAZING! I never thought I would like working with kindergarten (I always saw them rolling around, distracted and touching EVERYTHING hahaha), however they are SOOOOOO cute. I love working with them and engaged they are with everything you do.

Anyway, I can’t wait to post again and keep you updated on the things I am learning and doing as a casual teacher πŸ˜€

Love Mel xx

I am a new educator in my second year of teaching. I have worked with children for five years prior to this in an after school care. I absolutely love teaching and the importance of this career. I believe that every student should be immersed in a safe, supportive, calm environment to aid them in achieving the best outcomes they possibly can!
